When you’re clear about what you want to achieve, the universe seems to conspire to help you succeed.

Writing down your goals does a few things for you: it solidifies your intentions in your mind, helps you clarify what you truly want, and serves as a constant reminder of where you’re headed.

Don’t just jot down any thoughts or desires—be specific. Instead of writing “I want to be rich,” quantify what “rich” means to you. Is it earning a six-figure salary, owning a home, or maybe being debt-free? And don’t stop there; delve into why these goals resonate with you.

Creating your vision board is so much fun because you have to think thoroughly about what pictures you see in your head and put them on paper (or digital, of course).

Your vision board should be an inspirational treasure chest that captures the essence of your future achievements. Start gathering images that resonate with your desired outcomes, whether that’s snapshots of your dream home, exotic travel destinations, or symbols of professional success.

Here’s a quick guide to picking out the right elements:

  • Images: Choose pictures that stir emotions and spark excitement within you. They don’t necessarily have to be literal representations but can also be metaphorical.

Spiritual Protection & House Cleansing

Just as homes need to be physically cleaned, they also need to be spiritually cleaned. We call this a house cleansing. A house cleansing is necessary in addition to a house blessing and spiritual protection of your home. This serves to remove negative spirits and energy that’s collected in your home over the past years/months/days. Learn how to perform a house cleansing, house blessing, and to spiritually protect your home from invasion.

Importance of Cleansing and Blessing Your Home

Negative energy is particularly powerful in a home where trauma took place, domestic abuse, drug/alcohol abuse, suicide or homicide, severe mental illness, unexpected death and/or long-term illness. A house cleansing removes negative energy. While a house blessing brings in positive energy and spiritual protection prevents from further spiritual intrusion.

When To Do A House Cleansing

In addition to performing a house cleansing and house blessing when moving into a new home, you should also do it when a new person moves into the home. This new person will bring new energies into your house and until the energy stabilizes it’s a good idea to do a house cleansing. If there’s a tragedy in the house, do a house cleansing. If you’re experiencing paranormal activity, perform a house cleansing. I recommend performing a routine house cleansing once a month on the waning or new moon, as well. If you’ve also noticed a string of bad luck, illness, or discord, CLEANSE your home!

How to Perform a House Cleansing

A personal favorite of mine is to do a good ol’ fashioned smoke-cleansing. Smoke-cleansing, to put it simply, is a tradition of lighting bundles of herbs and using the smoke to spiritually cleanse an area or person from negative energy. Different herbs are used for this ritual including sage, cedar, rosemary, lavenderrose, and juniper. If you can’t get your hands on an herb bundle, make your own. The point is to let the smoke fill each room with its purifying powers. If you are using incense or an herb bundle, here are the steps to do a house cleansing:

  1. Open a few windows throughout your house or the back door. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP. It allows the energy to escape…it has to go somewhere!
  2. Start at your front door with lit incense or bundle in hand. Allow the smoke to fill the room and say, “I cleanse this home with smoke. All negativity must go away, only positive energy can stay.”
  3. Move in a counter-clockwise direction from room to room in your home. Allow the smoke to fill the air in each room while repeating the cleansing prayer above. (Take the incense/bundle in one hand and move it in a circular motion counterclockwise while speaking the words.)
  4. Be sure to get the corners of the room really well, as well as closets, cabinets, pantries, shower stalls, etc.
  5. Once you’ve cleansed each room with the smoke, extinguish the incense or bundle and say out loud, “so mote it be” or “amen” or “and it will be done”.

Other Ways to Cleanse Your Home (Without Smoke)

There’s literally dozens of ways to effectively cleanse your home from negative energy. And plenty that don’t involve burning herbs or smoke. If you can’t handle the smoke or can’t burn herbs for whatever reason, try one of the following instead:

  • Make a simmering potpourri (also called a simmer pot) on the stove
  • Use the cooled remnants from the simmer pot to spray around the house
  • Play high-vibrational music around the house (Celtic flutes, Tibetan bowls, etc.)
  • Bang on pots and pans (this is especially helpful to scare negative spirits away and shake up old stagnant energy)
  • Ring bells
  • Light a white candle and go from room to room, lighting up your space with divine white light energy
  • Any kind of cleansing herb spray works wonders
  • Asperging: dip a sprig of rosemary or other fresh herb into blessed or moon water then sprinkle around your space
  • Open the blinds – let in the sunlight!
  • Open the windows and let in some fresh air on a cool, breezy day

Perform An Effective House Blessing

House blessings are a common practice among various faiths. That being said, you don’t have to be of a particular faith to bless your home effectively. A house blessing acts to dedicate your home to positive energy, peace and harmony AND/OR to a specific spirit, deity, or ancestor. You are proclaiming to the spirit world that your home is under the care and supervision of a particular deity or Universal energy by performing a house blessing. The one thing you’ll need is a bit of olive oil or holy water. Performing an effective house blessing is the second step in the process after a thorough house cleansing.

Here’s how to perform a house blessing (a.k.a. consecration or sealing):

  1. Put your oil or holy water into a small bowl or container of your choice.
  2. Start in the front of your house and dip your pointer finger into the oil or water.
  3. Draw a protective symbol on the door-frame (i.e. a cross, rune, Star of David, etc.) While you’re drawing the symbol, say “Bless this home in the name of _____. (God, the Divine, the Universe, Spirit, Jesus, ancestors, etc.)
  4. Continue to repeat the process for every door, window, fireplace, and vent in your house, walking in a clockwise fashion from room to room until you’ve drawn your symbol on every entry in the house.
  5. End the house blessing with an “Amen” or “So be it”, etc.

Spiritual House Protection (Use With House Cleansing & Blessings)

When the house cleansing and blessing are complete, there’s one more step to protect your home and family from negative energy and spiritual intrusion. Depending on your faith, how you want to spiritually protect your home is ultimately up to you. Here are a few options to consider:

  • hang meaningful religious symbols on the walls and doors
  • feng shui
  • say a prayer every night to ask for protection
  • visualize a circle or bubble of impenetrable white light around your home (do this every night or at least once a week)
  • decorate with stones & crystals for protection/cleansing: tourmaline, obsidian, turquoise, tiger’s eye, selenite, onyx, etc.
  • physically draw a circle around your home with protective powders, salt, red brick dust, pepper, or rosemary and envision drawing a barrier around your home
  • hang pictures of deities, spirit guides, angels, or ancestors
  • wind chimes, bells, horseshoes, witch balls, mirrors, etc. to frighten away negative entities
  • cleansing and protective simmering potpourris (also called simmer pots), save the remnants and spray around the house
  • hang a small muslin bag or sachet filled with cinnamon or other protective herbs on your front and back doors
  • place statues of gargoyles, lions, and protective animals at the gate or front door
  • Pets are a great source of positive energy. Some will even protect you or take on your negative energy (cats and dogs particularly).

Plants With Protective Properties

In addition to the spiritual protection methods above, consider planting trees and bushes with protective qualities around your property. Our favorites include bushes with thorns: bougainvillea, roses, barberry, blackberry, cactus, Holly, hawthorn, locust honey, etc. There are also herbs with protective qualities like rosemary, aloe, bay, bean, cumin, mint, mullein, purslane, sage, snapdragon, etc.

Warding Your Property and Home

What is a ward, exactly? A ward is an object that works to ward off or scare away negative spirits and energy. Wards are placed around the property, typically in the four corners. Once they’re laid down once, you can refresh them once every three months. Spiritual cleansing is something that humans have practised for thousands of years, in today’s crazy modern world now more than ever we need to be doing this ancient practise.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL CLEANSING?

Us humans are good cleaners, we clean lots of things. Our skin, our teeth, our house, our food and the list goes on. A spiritual cleanse is to clean our spiritual energy. There’s a number of different ways this can be including using plants, smoke, the elements, the natural environment and our intention.

WHY YOU SHOULD PRACTISE SPIRITUAL CLEANSING

If you’re someone that has a lot of negative energy, envy around your environments, then you must definitely should be doing it. Most people should be doing it, however some need to more than others. 

In our daily routines we are exposed to a lot of energy, public transport, city streets, traffic, media and work places. This energy does build up on us, similar to how dirt builds up on the skin and needs to be washed off. While we can use aids, tools and different techniques – making sure we bring the right intention to this will be what delivers the results. This means that we treat this as a sacred spiritual practise that should be revered like our ancestors have for thousands of years. No matter where you are from, if you trace back your ancestoral roots you will find they practised some similar forms of spiritual work, this is a way to honour them. It is also a way to honour yourself and the elements you will be working with. With a sense of respect, grounded focus and belief sets the right intention.

So how does manifestation work? And how can you put it into practice so you can manifest your goals and dreams?

What Is Manifestation?

The word “manifestation” stems from the Latin word manifestare, meaning “to discover” or “to disclose.” Simply put, the manifestation definition makes something evident through your thoughts, attractions, and beliefs.

Think of it this way: have you ever thought of something so hard or so often it came true?

Maybe you were thinking how nice a cup of coffee would be, and without uttering a word, someone brought you one. Or with “luck”, you seem to always find awesome parking spots at the mall. Perhaps you wanted to be part of a like-minded community and met incredible people at Mindvalley’s A-Fest.

All of these are examples of manifesting your dreams — it’s your conscious effort to trust that the Universe will provide you with exactly what you need at the time you need it.

Every time an individual has a thought or a prolonged, chronic way of thinking, they’re in a creation process,” explains Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of Agape International Spiritual Center and trainer of Mindvalley’s Life Visioning Mastery Quest. “Something is going to manifest out of those thoughts.

It’s a lot like Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and all the legendary masters using the Force to hone in on their intentions. So yes, with manifestation practice, you, too, have Jedi-like powers.

How does manifestation work with the Law of Attraction?

When talking about manifestation, more often than not, the law of Attraction comes to mind. It’s one of the 12 universal laws, affirming that thoughts, feelings, people, and objects tend to migrate towards other things that are the same.

It’s the universal principle of “like attracts like.” Simply put, every thought you put out there — be it positive or negative — responds in kind. So your positive thoughts attract and manifest positive experiences in your life and your negative thoughts bring negative experiences.

But here’s a little secret few are familiar with: there’s another law that is more important than the Law of Attraction. It’s called the Law of Resonance.

What’s the Law of Resonance got to do with manifestation?

Everything in the universe — bodies, thoughts, inanimate objects, and so on — is in a constant state of movement, or what’s often referred to as vibrations. And all these things vibrate at different frequencies, like how Yoda and Darth Vader are on very different vibrational levels.

With the Law of Resonance, when the vibration of a thing is projected, it attracts the energies of the same resonance. So when it comes to you, you become like a tuning fork, radiating a frequency that activates the same energy in others, as Dr. Beckwith explains.

Now, the Law of Resonance works synergistically with the Law of Attraction. If you’re trying to manifest something — let’s say abundance — but subconsciously, you’re wired around fear or scarcity, then the laws will bring you those exact things.

How to Manifest What You Want

Once you’ve gone through your healing process, manifesting your dreams is quite a straightforward process. The secret (if it even is one!) is to start.

Too many people never get what they desire in their life because they never actually claim what they want,” “They never actually get clear on what they’re asking for, so in some ways, we have to teach ourselves to dream again.

And you can begin with these eight principles:

  1. Believe in yourself
  2. Create an action plan
  3. Take action
  4. Focus on the positive
  5. Visualize
  6. Stay humble and grateful
  7. Upgrade your beliefs
  8. Become a conscious creator

So, to answer “How does manifestation work?”, let’s take a closer look at each principle.

8 Principles of Manifestation

As this practice builds and your belief system strengthens, the status of your life, the magnitude of your joy, and all that your heart desires will show itself. The choice for a better life is yours.

1. Believe in yourself

Easier said than done, for sure. And using the power of visualization is a great way to initiate this becoming.

Visualize believing in yourself. Manifest your desire. Acknowledge that you are capable. And through this acknowledgment, allow the desire for a better life to build within you.

2. Create an action plan

Remember, though, visualization alone will get you only so far. For the journey to continue, you must take the first step.

You can start by looking at the 12 categories of life and map out your plan. Play with the belief that what you want is already waiting for you.

And once you have a plan, take action.

You need to focus only on the first step here. Complete it, and then move on to the next.

Slowly, checkpoint after checkpoint, everything will begin to unfold beautifully.

Here are five things you can start in your daily routine to help turn your imagination into something manifested.

  1. Write down your goals, both long and short-term.
  2. Practice breathing and meditation. This will help you identify your abundance blocks and open the channels to connect you to your vision.
  3. Move your body with some form of activity, like yoga or intuitive dance. It can release endorphins to help boost your mood, release energy blocks, and disempower beliefs.
  4. Tell people you know, strangers, and even yourself what it is that you intend to accomplish.
  5. Create a vision board or keep a manifestation journal that you write daily.

Use these steps to garner momentum to achieve your goal. Carry your new base of knowledge and power with you as you charge forward into whatever life has to offer next.

4. Focus on the positive

Worry, fear, anxiety, doubt, or resistance in the form of limiting beliefs, pollute and dilute your vibration. Acknowledge them for what they are, but choose to push yourself in a direction of positive thinking.

6. Stay humble and grateful

Remember to stay humble because nobody likes a big ego. The good thing is, “ego go cannot be annihilated, but it can be tamed,” according to Dr. Beckwith.

So here are a few suggestions for adding a bit of modesty to your list of virtues:

  • Harness the power of gratitude and remind yourself of the blessings you have daily. Keep a journal or if you’re someone who’s on the visual side, do a gratitude jar.
  • Thank yourself for all the hard work you’ve put in while simultaneously thanking the Universe for honoring this work and providing you with results.
  • Thank yourself for initiating the process, and find gratitude in every success and setback along the way. But do not allow your newfound success to go to your head.
  • Always acknowledge who you once were and where you came from.
  • Do what you can to help others realize as you have.

There are so many things to be grateful for and you can send that gratitude forward into the future for that which you are about to receive.

7. Upgrade your beliefs

Many people also have a bottleneck of positive energy when it comes to money – usually rooted in beliefs of scarcity and unworthiness.

But since money is nothing but a number and a means of exchange, do you believe in the scarcity of the things you would purchase with that money? Do you believe that you are not worthy of having food, shelter, or nice things?

If so, it’s time to have a chat – a long, deep chat – with yourself. Ask yourself where these money wounds came from. Then, see if you can challenge the authority of those beliefs.

8. Become a conscious creator

You are already a pro at manifesting. You have, for the most part, unconsciously created a default existence based on your beliefs. 

There’s no reason why you can’t create an awesome life using the proper manifestation techniques. All you need to do is take conscious control of the process instead of defaulting according to your old beliefs.

Create new beliefs, and guide your thoughts, emotions, and visualization. Take action on this potential, stay humble, and focus on your gratitude for all the opportunities life throws your way.
